DOST-MIMAROPA has been consistently assisting remote island communities in the region to overcome challenges related to access to potable water. These interventions aim to deliver accessible, affordable, and safe water sources, reduce water borne diseases, save money by cutting transportation costs, and create more time for productive activities that generate income for communities.

BLUE ECONOMY

Navigating Sustainable Futures through Blue Economy Initiatives

Given the geographical make-up of MIMAROPA, a significant portion of the region's income is derived from its blue economy. From 2019 and 2021, MIMAROPA contributed an average of 10.74% or 401,614.77 metric tons to the total volume of aquaculture fisheries production in the Philippines, securing its position as the 3rd top producing region.

Empowering MIMAROPA: Illuminating Communities through Renewable Energy Initiatives

To promote sustainability and inclusivity, DOST-MIMAROPA is advancing initiatives that promote the use of renewable energy to address unique challenges in the MIMAROPA Region. The project aims to establish and sustain power generation in GIDA communities, ensuring equitable access to clean and reliable energy sources and aligning with national renewable energy goals.

Driving Change through Digital Transformation: Building Smart and Sustainable Communities in MIMAROPA

Digital Transformation encompasses a range of initiatives designed to leverage digital technology to align with the global adoption of digitalization, aimed at enhancing and addressing challenges across various sectors. The projects involve automating patient records in healthcare, implementing and developing emerging ICT solutions, transforming farming practices through technology and data-driven approaches, conducting groundwater resource mapping for sustainable water management, and digitalizing fishery resource management systems.

Strengthening the STI Ecosystem through Strategic Promotional Initiatives

DOST-MIMAROPA actively implements science communication and promotion initiatives to strengthen and reinforce the STI culture in the region. These initiatives play a vital role in promoting the adoption of STI programs, services, and products, fostering an environment that encourages society to pursue STEM opportunities. Comparing the data from 2022 to 2023, there is a notable 18% increase in scholarship applicants and a significant 54% increase in qualifiers.

Greener MIMAROPA: Bridging Environmental Gaps for Climate Resilience

DOST-MIMAROPA is actively implementing environmental conservation initiatives to promote proper waste management and sustainability, with the goal of fortifying agriculture and the blue economy in the region. These interventions specifically target challenges in waste disposal and management in GIDA, utilizing a range of technologies for effective solid waste management.

Advancing Disaster Resilience: Multi-dimensional Approaches for Effective Risk Reduction and Management

Building Disaster Resilience: 

Rationale:  The projects have significant implications in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM). They address critical needs in water, food, power, connectivity, and information, thereby enhancing resilience and preparedness in disaster-prone areas. Through the promotion of mobile water treatment systems, development of emergency food reserves, provision of solar-powered generators, implementation of satellite-based internet connectivity, and utilization of AI technology for comprehensive disaster information, these projects contribute to the creation of more resilient communities that are better equipped to mitigate risks and respond effectively during disasters.
